On Wednesday the 14th of July 2021 Indonesia recorded over 54,500 new cases of COVID-19 with 991 deaths the same day. In reaction to the staggering increase in cases of COVID-19, Indonesia with the collaboration of Australia launched a massive fundraising campaign to support people affected by COVID-19 in Yogyakarta.
This scheme was put into place to specifically target vulnerable groups such as the LGBT community, street children and sex workers. Without government support people in poverty are having to risk going to work which could cause infection otherwise themselves and their families will go hungry.
People that are lucky enough to have the resources to stay at home do, but people such as street venders that are unable to work at the moment still need a livelihood to pay for essentials such as food or rent.
With such a critical problem in Indonesia, the CEO of Harapan Fian Ahmad “Didin” Syaifuddin and his Australian co-organizer Alex Gotts launched “The Emergency Covid Relief Indonesia” campaign. Which as of the 21st of July, 2021 has $5885 in donations so far. These donations will help those most vulnerable in Yogyakarta during this crucial time and with this help we can slowly prevent the spread of COVID-19.
