I met Sintia since 2016. We know each other but not very close. At that time, Sintia only had one child named Maria. She lives with her father in a scavenger settlement in the eastern part of Jogja.
At the end of 2020, Sintia informed me that she was pregnant and had serious complications. She had to give birth in the hospital and had a cesarean section. Delivery went smoothly. She has two twins. Sintia’s happiness didn’t last long.
On January 6, 2022, she informed me that her son was sick. Both have respiratory problems and suffer from high fever. I took them to hospital and they must stay at the Hospital. She face problem because she has no identity and health insurance.
One of the work that Harapan Fian does is support marginalized people who have the same problem as Sintia. I advocated Sintia so that she can get health insurance from the government. This advocacy process may be difficult for donors to imagine. I can only say that this situation is important and must be taken seriously by all of us. This is a LIFE and DEATH situation of a child.
I managed to take care of health insurance for Sintia so she doesn’t have to pay for the hospital fees. Since her son was malnourished, Harapan Fian made several interventions to support the health of her two children. We visit sintia once a week and provide extra food for her son.
This is our seventh month accompanying Sintia. I see very good progress. Although it’s still too early to tell, both of Sintia’s children are growing up healthy. There are two things that I see, the child’s weight and the child’s ability.
